Middle School or Collège 

There is a written and an oral test

1. The candidate will have 1 hour and a half for the written test which comprises :

  • A composition : 10 marks
  • A language section with grammar and vocabulary exercises (gap filling, correct the mistakes, sentence conversion .......) : 5 marks
  • A reading comprehension based on a History-Geography text with between 5 and 10 questions to answer. This exercice is designed to test the pupil’s level of comprehension and NOT to test his knowledge of History-Geography : 5 marks

Written test total 20 marks

2. The oral test lasts about 15 minutes : 20 marks

Candidates must be fluent speakers of English / Les élèves doivent déjà parler couramment anglais​

  • Candidates will be asked to read a text aloud and then they will be asked questions on this text. 
  • They will then be engaged in general conversation and/or a discussion arising from the text.

How to help candidates to prepare for the test 

  • Read with them regularly
  • Encourage them to read aloud for you on a regular basis
  • Speak English with them as often as possible
  • Have them watch films in English as often as possible
  • Practise dictations to help them write and spell correctly

High School or Lycée 

There is a written and an oral test

1. The candidate will have 1 hour and a half for the written test : 40 marks 

The Written is based, as for the Collège, on a Composition, on Language Exercises (of roughly Cambridge First Certificate/Advanced level), and a History-Geography comprehension.

2. The oral test lasts about 15 minutes : 20 marks

The Oral is similar in format to the Oral described above in the Collège section..
